Do you use a cochlear implant? Or does your child use one? We hope this device provides you with great support in your everyday life. However, even if your hearing is okay, there may be issues you are not fully satisfied with.
Do you travel a lot to contact your technician or your kid's therapist? Do you feel like replacing your device with a more modern one? Do you find the spare parts or the batteries too costly?
Despite an increasing need there had been no national level organization representing people with a cochlear implant up until 2007. The civil society-initiated Association of Hungarian Cochlear Implanted People was founded in order to support all users of cochlear implants. Our primary objective is to promote the interests of current and future users of cochlear implants, irrespective of the manufacturer of the device, and we aim to achieve the following goals:
Protection of Users' Interests
Our Association aims to cooperate with Hungarian and international organizations promoting the interests of deaf people and those living with hearing impairments. We place particular emphasis on the representation of the legal, health and social interests of people living with cochlear implants. Our Association handles every person living with a cochlear implant in an equal manner, without regard to the manufacturer or type of the device they use.
Collection and dissemination of information
The Association wishes to enhance the professional and social awareness and acceptance of cochlear implantation. We will not advertise or promote any single implant manufacturer.
Cooperation with CI centres
The Association aims to cooperate with the 4 CI centres of Hungary (operating in Budapest, Pécs, Szeged and Debrecen University Hospitals) in order to fully attend to the special needs of current and future users of cochlear implants. CI centres exist to diagnose hearing impairments as early in life as it is possible; they engage in early childhood development, they offer pre-implantation consultation and the post-implantation mapping of the speech processor, they perform rehabilitation therapy, and in general all sorts of social, technical and special needs activities closely related to cochlear implants.
The Hungarian Cochlear Implant Association is full member of the European Association of the Cochlear Implant Users (EURO - CIU).
